Introduction

The European Masters in Specialised Translation is the initiative of a consortium of 7 European universities and institutions of higher education: ISTI - Haute Ecole de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium), ILMH - Haute Ecole Léonard de Vinci (Brussels, Belgium), ISIT - Institut Catholique de Paris (France), Lessius Hogeschool (Antwerp, Belgium), IPLV - Université Catholique de l’Ouest (Angers, France), Universität Leipzig (Germany), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain)

This Masters offers student translators a year of specialisation in a multicultural, profession-oriented environment. The curriculum is highly innovative while adhering to the exacting standards set by the 7 partner institutions.

The year-long programme consists of 2 semesters spent in 2 partner institutions in different countries and offers 21 different curricular combinations.

Aims

The European Masters in Specialised Translation is intended for students who already have a minimum of 240 ECTS credits, 90 of which should be in translation. Two semesters of training in specialised translation, using dedicated professional tools, are offered.

Students choose to specialise in one of two major fields:
- Translation and New Technology
- Translation and the Business World.

Our intention is to enable students within Europe to develop a specialist professional profile. By thus enriching their academic skills, our students will significantly improve their chances of succeeding in the international job market.

Courses

1. Each of the partner institutions offers a specialist course of study corresponding to one semester of teaching. Some of the courses include a choice of options. Students are expected to obtain 25 ECTS credits per semester.

2. Students make their choice from the 21 different course combinations.

3. Upon successful completion of the study programme (i.e. 2 semesters in 2 different universities) students shall have earned 50 ECTS credits.

4. The student’s home university will also award 10 ECTS credits (requirements for obtaining these credits will be communicated by the student’s home university upon registration).

Overall Assessment
60 ECTS credits must be obtained, 25 ECTS credits in the 2 host universities and 10 ECTS credits in the student’s home university.

Certification
The European Masters in Specialised Translation is a post-graduate course leading to an internationally recognised degree jointly validated by the 7 members of the consortium.
